LUDHIANA—Scottish Sikh youth Jagtar Singh, affectionately called Jaggi, was produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate Sumit Sabharwal on November 28 by the Ludhiana police. The Court extended his Police remand for two days in case pertaining to murder of a Christian pastor in Ludhiana. An FIR No. 218/17 was registered in the Police station of Salem Tabri following the murder of Pastor Sultan Masih earlier this year.
Similarly, UK resident Taljit Singh alias Jimmy was also produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate Rajinder Singh Nagpal in a case pertaining to murder of Shiv Sena activist Amit Sharma. Police remand of Taljit Singh, nicknamed Jimmy, was extended for three days by the Court. An FIR No. 6/17 was registered in the Police Station Division No. 8 following the murder of Amit Sharma.
Meanwhile, the Defense counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur has accused the Court of manifesting biased approach in these cases. He told the media that the Police was not allowing Jagtar Singh Jaggi to have meeting in privacy with the British High Commission. He added that on November 25 when the officials of British High Commission came to meet Jagtar Singh Jaggi, two senior Police officers remained present during their meeting. “Today, I raised the issue in Court the Magistrate didn’t pay any attention towards it,” he added.
