SGPC Set to Honour Hazoori Ragi Bhai Jaswant Singh and Budha Dal Chief Baba Balbir Singh on Nov 29

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The SGPC is all set to confer ‘Shiromani Raagi Honour’ to former Hazoori Raagi Bhai Jaswant Singh and ‘Shiromani Sewa Ratan’ title to Budha Dal Chief Baba Balbir Singh. These honours will be conferred to the duo renowned Sikh personalities on November 29.

Bhai Jaswant Singh has been a hazoori raagi at Sri Darbar Sahib.  He is son of renowned kirtani Bhai Pyara Singh, who too was a hazoori raagi at Sri Darbar Sahib.  Baba Balbir Singh on the other hand is the chief of Budha Dal.  He was appointed custodian of the Budha Dal in 2007 due to ailing health of Baba Santa Singh.  After the passing away of Baba Santa Singh, he was appointed as the chief of the Dal in 2008.

Earlier, the Shiromani Raagi Award was conferred to former Hazoori Raagi Bhai Balbir Singh.  However, it was later revoked after his video with Noormehal cult chief Ashutosh Jha had gone viral over social media. Initially, a lifetime ban on Raagi Bhai Balbir Singh of performing Kirtan in Sikh shrines was also imposed by the Takht Jathedars but later he was forgiven.
