Indian President Ram Nath Kovind pays obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Recently appointed President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on November 16 paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib along with his family members.  He partook in langar at the Guru Ram Dass Langar Hall.

On his arrival, he was welcomed by SGPC president Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, SAD president Sukhbir Badal, Union minister Harsimrat Badal, Cabinet minister Rana Gurjit Singh, SGPC secretary Roop Singh and general secretary Amarjit Singh Chawla at the entrance plaza of the central Sikh shrine.

Interacting with media after on this occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind said that by paying obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib, he got apprised with the power of Sikh concepts of ‘Pangat & Sangat’ to eradicate the differences based on caste, creed and color.

President Ram Nath Kovind followed the Sikh custom of first having food by sitting in pangat in the Langar Hall and then paid obeisance inside the sanctum sanctorum. President Kovind had specially instructed the SGPC for not making any special arrangement for his arrival in the Langar Hall.

Ram Nath Kovind is the sixth Indian President to pay obeisance at the holiest Sikh shrine and second Indian president who had a community meal. Governor of Punjab V.P. Singh Badnore was also accompanying President Kovind on this eve.

  1. Please start calling our institution with its proper name which is “Darbar sahib”These are the people who don’t let Sikhs to carry their 5 K’s in the country. What bigots ? The stupid is the so called Sikh leadership who went to receive this man who represents the most anti Sikh anti minority government .
