Guru Nanak’s Parkash Gurpurab Celebrated at Harmandir Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The 548th birth anniversary (parkash gurpurab) of first Sikh master Sri Guru Nanak Dev was observed at the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib on November 4 with full ardor and devotion.

Scores of Sikh devotees paid obeisance at the holiest Sikh shrine to receive Guru Sahib’s blessings and took dip in the holy sarovar (sacred water pool). Special manifestation of traditional Sikh artifacts was also held on this occasion inside the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib, supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai Ji. Lighting was also held in the evening hours following recitation of Sri Akhand Path Sahib.

In a separate program, the SGPC also culminated Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Diwan Hall Manji Sahib. Granthi Bhai Gurcharan Singh performed ardas on this occasion and Bhai Harmittar Singh read the sacred hukamnama (Order of the Almighty Lord) on this eve.

Shedding light on the life of Guru Nanak Sahib, Bhai Harmittar Singh encouraged the Sikh devotees to adopt values taught by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Manager of Sri Darbar Sahib S. Sulakhan Singh Bhangali, S. Gurinder Singh, Additional Manager S. Harjinder Singh Bhoora Kohna, S. Rajinder Singh Ruby, S. Baghel Singh, S. Lakhbir Singh, S. Satnam Singh, S. Parupkar Singh, Assistant Superintedent S. Malkit Singh, S. Kabal Singh etc. were prominent among the present SGPC officials on this occasion.
