The order came on October 13, a day after High Court justices AK Mittal and Amit Rawal took suo motu notice of the pollution caused by bursting firecrackers. On October 12, the bench had issued notices to the two state governments and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, seeking details of the temporary licenses issued to sell crackers.

To ensure the successful imposition of thee ruling, the High Court bench has also directed authorities of duo states to depute adequate vans of the Pollution Control Room to prevent people from flouting the order.

Sikh24 has learnt that the state authorities of Punjab and Haryana have been also restricted from issuing permanent licenses to firecracker traders without the permission of Court. The Court has also limited the number of temporary licenses that can be issued and has said that a draw should be conducted to grant permits to sell firecrackers.
