SGPC President Hails Supreme Court’s Ban on Fireworks Sale in Delhi; Raises Concern for Rapid Climate Change

—In a press note shared with Sikh24, SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has highly hailed the Supreme Court’s decision of banning sale of firecrackers in Delhi. He has said that the Supreme Court’s directive holds importance in modern age as we are all victim to rising pollution.

It may be recalled here the Supreme Court had on October 9 banned the sale of fireworks during Diwali in the Delhi-NCR region.

Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has claimed that the SGPC was also serious and aware about the importance and preservation of natural resources like air and water. He has said that the SGPC has also commenced a campaign for the purification of environment in commemoration of 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

“We are planting trees and plants in this campaign and we want to appeal to Sikh masses to carry this campaign to every home,” he added.

Clarifying the trend of fireworks during Gurpurabs and Bandi Chhor Diwas within Sri Darbar Sahib, the SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has said that this trend was very old and now the SGPC was switching to LED lighting slowly. He cited use of LED lighting by SGPC recently on 483rd birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ram Das Ji.
