SGPC Plans Five Year Strategy To Improve Its Medical Institutions

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The first meeting of newly appointed members of Sri Guru Ramdas Charitable Hospital Trust was held in Amritsar Sahib in leadership of SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar at Sri Guru Ramdas Medical College on September 15. The meeting was attended by the trustees Former Punjab’s Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal, amongst other doctors and dignitaries.

The trustees of the SGRCHT resolved to chalk out a five year program to improve the medical facilities being offered at the countrywide hospitals being run under the trust. The trustees have also constituted a Medical Advisory Committee in the leadership of PGI’s Former Director Dr. Talwad. Dr. Gurpreet Singh Vaandar, Dr. Hardaas Singh, Dr. Sudhir Verma, Principal of Sri Guru Ramdas Medical College and Secretary Coordinator of Trust will also be the members of this committee.  

The trustees have also decided to purchase new machines besides constructing a different building Sri Guru Ramdas Medical University.

It is pertinent to note here that the Sri Guru Ramdas Charitable Hospital was founded on October 17, 1977 but Sri Guru Ramdas Charitable Hospital Trust had come to existence in 1992. Initially, Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Dental Science was established under the trust in 1994 and in 1997 Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Medical Sciences & Research was established. This SGPC run institute now has 150 MBBS seats, 60 BDS seats, 79 MD / MS seats and 18 MDS seats.

In a survey by Magazine India Today, Sri Guru Ramdas Medical College was ranked on 10th position across India.

Sri Guru Ramdas Charitable Hospital Trust currently runs seven institutes namely Sri Guru Ramdas University of Health Sciences, Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Dental Sciences & Research, Sri Guru Ramdas College of Nursing, Sri Guru Ramdas Rotary Cancer Hospital, Sri Guru Ramdas Charitable Hospital and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Dispensary Gurdas Nangal (Gurdaspur).

  1. SGPC should make an Road map for next 1000 year’s by setting up
    1) One Medical college in each district of India
    2) One Engineering college in each district of India.
    3) One University in each state of India.
    4) One School in every town and district of India
    5) One Law, Management and Commerce college in each district of India.

  2. Medical institutes need to upgrade themselves by

    1) Starting DM/ MCH / PhD course’s.
    2) Starting more medical colleges in all districts of India.

    SGPC needs to give a big boost to its EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES.
    Make students aspire to win NOBEL PRIZE .
