SGPC Cuts Electricity & Water For Giani Gurmukh Singh After Panj Piare Visit

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Only a few days after appearing before the Panj Pyare (five beloved ones) – sacked by the SGPC during the disturbances against the SGPC in 2015 – electricity and water supplies to Giani Gurmukh Singh’s residence quarters were disconnected by the SGPC yesterday.

Gurmukh Singh had appeared before the five to make witness testimony regarding the events surrounding the Akal Takht’s exonerating of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, now convicted for rape.

It is learnt that the steps were taken at the directions of SAD President and Former Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal, who faced embarrassment at a press conference when being questioned about the revelations made by Giani Gurmukh Singh.

Sukhbir Badal labelled Giani Gurmukh Singh a liar. He tried to evade the questions and even claimed that Giani Gurmukh Singh had been sending him messages to reinstate him as a Jathedar.

Giani Gurmukh Singh was among the five high priests who exonerated Sirsa cult head on September 24, 2015 in blasphemy charges. The cult leader had committed blasphemy in 2007 by dressing up like the tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

On being contacted by Sikh24, Giani Gurmukh Singh claimed that the SGPC cannot evict him from the house till his son completes the current academic season.

“I will lodge a police complaint. I cannot shift with family easily, as my father is a heart patient and my mother is facing an ailment related to the brain. I am still serving under the SGPC as a Granthi. I am not some  crook, against whom the SGPC is taking this action,” he added.

Family sources of Giani Gurmukh Singh have even claimed that the minute Sukhbir’s press conference ended, they received calls from the SGPC to vacate the house.

“On Sunday, Golden Temple manager Sulakhan Singh visited the house and had the water supply and electricity disconnected,” said Himmat Singh, brother of Giani Gurmukh Singh.

Meanwhile, Sikh24 was informed that in the late evening on September 17, the SGPC has reinstated the water and electricity supplies to Giani Gurmukh Singh’s residence.
