Sikh Channel Rapped By Ofcom Over Grooming Film

BIRMINGHAM, UK—After a complainant contacted the UK’s broadcast regulatory body, OFCOM, the Sikh Channel (UK) has been accused of inciting vigilantism against Muslim grooming groups, after the airing of a community produced short film, Misused Trust.

The film centers around a young Sikh female who has been groomed and violently abused by a Muslim man, following which, male Sikh youth take matters into their own hands and physically attack the perpetrators.

The accusation maintains that the film encourages victim families and the community to avoid informing authorities of their victimization, due to inaction, and allow the community to take action themselves.

Ofcom’s statement said, “We are concerned that the portrayal of the vigilante attack on “Abdul’s” (a character criminal in the film) house may have been interpreted by viewers as condoning such attacks and representing attacks carried out by members of Sikh Youth UK.”

Muslim grooming gangs are known to have targeted white, Hindu and Sikh girls throughout the country and have thus far not been tackled on any effective level by the authorities, except in some cases, after the victims have suffered excessively.
