AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has appointed a sub-committee to help Sikligar Sikhs, residing in Madhya Pradesh. SGPC’s executive member Bhai Ram Singh, S. Gurdeep Singh Bhatia (Indore), SGPC’s Vice-Secretary S. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan and S. Resham Singh have been selected for the committee. This committee will provide financial aid to the Sikligar Sikhs who have endured extensive police torture in the past and were framed in cases by the Madhya Pradesh police.

The sub-committee will also present a report about facilitating professional education for children and stitching machines and training centres for Sikligar Sikh women.

Speaking to Sikh24, Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that the Sikligar Sikhs were a prominent part of the Sikh community and the SGPC was committed to making every possible effort to step up their standard of living.

Sikligars Sikhs were ironsmiths who once specialized in the craft of making and polishing weapons. Once commonly known as Gaddilohars, the term Sikligar was bestowed on these men who fashioned irons by Guru Gobind Singh who turned Lohgarh (the Iron fort at Anandpur Sahib) into the Sikh Armoury.
