United Akali Dal Carries out Protest March to Mark 35th Anniversary of Dharam Yudh Morcha

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Dharam Yudh Morcha, on August 4, the United Akali Dal took out a protest march in Sri Amritsar. The march commenced from the Clock Tower cross road outside the holiest Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib and ended outside the main police station of Amritsar where a UAD’s delegation submitted a memorandum to the police.

While offering prayer at the supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib before commencing warning march, UAD General Secretary Gurdeep Singh Bathinda cited that the march was being conducted to issue warning to the Indian government that Sikh community hasn’t forget the Dharam Yudh Morcha.

UAD president Bhai Mohkam Singh said that the Sikh community seeks unconditional release of political Sikh prisoners beside implementation of Dharam Yudh Morcha’s demands. He also announced to stage a sit-in-strike at Kotakpura Chowk on August 14 and mark August 15 as a Black Day for Sikhs.

UAD leaders had witnessed a backlash after they ignored the demand for release of political prisoners.  Since then, the party has reaffirmed its stance that political prisoners must be released.

The protest watch witnessed presence of prominent Sikh leaders, including S. Jatinder Singh Esrhu, former MLA Master Johar Singh Gurdaspur, Bhai Satnam Singh Manawa, Bhai Rajeev Singh Randhawa, S. Bahadar Singh Rahon, SYFB’s President Bhai Balwant Singh Gopala and others.
