Indian Supreme Court’s First Sikh Chief Justice to Retire on August 7

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The first Sikh Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar will retire from the apex post of Indian judiciary on August 7 as he will turn 65 that day.  Justice Deepak Mishra will swear in as a new Chief Justice on August 8.

Sikh24 has learnt from reliable sources that Justice Khehar plans to move back to Chandigarh and will spend his rest of life there. In Chandigarh, he owns a villa and he had practiced there for many years as a lawyer.

Justice Khehar has been a judge in the Supreme Court of India since September 13, 2011.
