Phoolka Resigns After Being Refused Permission To Pursue Sikh Genocide Cases

HS Phoolka handing over his resignation to Punjab assembly speaker Rana KP Singh

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—AAP legislator Harvinder Singh Phoolka today resigned from the AAP, holding the post as the leader of opposition, in the Punjab assembly. He submitted his resignation to the Punjab assembly speaker Rana KP Singh today, about which he informed the public via Twitter.

Phoolka has taken this decision after being disallowed by the Delhi Bar Council from spearheading cases pertaining to the victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide. The Bar Council had said that as a Leader of Opposition, HS Phoolka was misusing his office for such matters.

Sikh24 has learnt that the resignation of HS Phoolka was under consideration and the AAP has also not proposed name of any legislator as his substitute.

Phoolka had announced his decision to quit as the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly on July 9. He had made it clear that representing the victims of 1984 Sikh genocide in the Court was more important for him than leading the opposition in Punjab assembly.

He had also recommended names of AAP MLAs Sukhpal Khaira, Kanwar Sandhu and Aman Arora, according to their seniority, to the party high command to elect the Leader of Opposition from among them in consultation with other party legislators.
