Quote:
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਚੈ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਕੋਠੜੀ   ਸਚੇ ਕਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸੁ॥
ih jag sachai kee hai koṭhṛee   sache kaa vich vaas.
This world is the house of the true Divine; the true Divine dwells within it.
– Guru Angad Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 463

Message: The Divine is in us and we are in the Divine

Some religious traditions consider the world to be an illusion. In contrast, Sikhi is a life affirming faith and avers that the world is a reality and that we are here for a purpose.

The verse above affirms that the world is the abode of the Eternal.

Some traditions stress that, one needs to abandon the world and live the life of a recluse to attain spiritual elevation and liberation.

However if we see this world as an illusion, we tend to shun it. When we see only the world and not the Divine within, we excessively indulge in its earthly pleasures and fail to develop spiritually.

The mind has both strengths and weaknesses. Yes, the mind is liable to be corrupted and prone to vices when the ego is let loose.

It’s up to the individual, the person to find beauty within and without. Hence, Guru-oriented persons see the world as the abode of the Beautiful. They attune their minds to the Master and disengage themselves from excessive worldly indulgence and greed.

Let’s see the Creator in our life and build a house of peace and serenity.

Etymology: Modified from koṭhaa (brick-built large house) from Sanskrit koshṭh (pot; granary, storeroom) → Pali koṭṭh→ Prakrit koṭṭh → Sindhi koṭho(large room) and koṭhee (storeroom), Lahndi/Punjabi (small room or house).
