AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The Interim Akal Takht Jathedar (appointed by Sarbat Khalsa 2015) Bhai Dhian Singh Mand has termed the “life threatening letter” as a drama staged by former Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh.

Giani Gurmukh Singh had received a threatening letter from an unidentified person, alleged to be a Sirsa cult disciple yesterday at his native village in Firozepur.  The letter challenged Giani Gurmukh Singh that upcoming Gurmat Samagams at his village will be stopped by Sirsa cult followers.  Speaking with Sikh24, Giani Gurmukh Singh informed that the threatening letter was found hanging on the outer door of his residence in village Arifke (Ferozepur), where his brother currently resides.

Interim Jathedar Bhai Dhian Singh Mand however held that Giani Gurmukh Singh was under fire of Sikh masses for playing a key role in facilitating unasked pardon to Sirsa cult chief Giani Gurmukh Singh. “Giani Gurmukh Singh is making attempt to get sympathy of Sikh masses with such dramatic acts.” he added.

He said that Giani Gurmukh Singh was not being accepted by Sikh masses despite the fact that he was removed from his duties at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib by the SGPC.

Giani Gurmukh Singh has however claimed eminent threat to his life and has filed a complaint in this regard with the police.  He told Sikh24 that copies of the letter have been sent to the DGP, Police Commissioner and SGPC Chief Secretary.

On being contacted by Sikh24, SGPC Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh said that he has received a copy of the letter. He added that the SGPC will ensure there is no threat to former Jathedar’s life and that he has adequate security.
