Pakistan Sikh Sangat Observes Martyrdom Anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev Ji

LAHORE, Pakistan—Martyrdom anniversary of fifth Sikh master Guru Arjan Dev Ji was observed at Gurdwara Dehra Sahib of Lahore (Pakistan) on June 16. Notably, the SGPC had observed the martyrdom anniversary on May 29 following the amended calendar however the PSGPC had announced to follow the dates of Gurpurab as per the basic Nanakshahi calendar.

Addressing the Sikh masses on this occasion, Chairman of Evacuee Trust Property Board Mr. Sadik-Ul-Faruq criticized the Indian government for creating obstacles in the way of Sikh devotees to bar them from attending the Gurpurab celebrations. He said that the religious matters should be kept apart from religious issues.

Deputy Secretary of Evacuee Trust Property Board Mr. Imran Khan said that the Pakistan government was chalking out a robust plan to save artefacts related to Sikh culture and history.

Mr. Faraz Abbas, Mr. Azhar Shah, Mr. Rana Aulakh, S. Tara Singh (President of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee), S. Bishan Singh (former President of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee), S. Ramesh Singh Arora, Dr. Sahib Singh, S. Gopal Singh Chawla, S. Maninder Singh, S. Charanjit Singh etc. were prominent among the present gathering.

Earlier, the Pakistan Government had released a stamp to mark 400th anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
