Indian President withdraws ‘Gallantry Medal’ awarded to Former Cop Gurmeet Pinky

NEW DELHI—The President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee on June 7 withdrawn the ‘gallantry medal’ awarded to cat-turned-police cop Gurmeet Pinky. The President took this decision on the proposal of the Office of the Union Home Minister which came to know about his conviction in a murder case in July 2015.

Cat-turned-police cop Gurmeet Pinky was conferred the ‘gallantry medal’ in 1997 when he was serving in the Punjab police department on Sub-Inspector rank. He was conferred the award on the recommendation of the Punjab government which had also issued an integrity certificate in his favor.

In 2001, Gurmeet Pinky was indicted under murder charges and later in 2006, he was held guilty of murdering an innocent near Ludhiana by the Court. He was sentenced to life by the Court and was dismissed from his duty by the Punjab police.

Gurmeet Pinky was granted premature release in May 2014, and he was reinstated as Inspector in the Punjab in 2015. Later, the sharp wrath among Punjab masses had forced the Punjab government to rollback his reinstating orders.

The issue had gone viral when Gurmeet Pinky had accused the then DGP Sumedh Saini of charging Rs. 5 million to reinstate him in the Punjab police.

The Union Home Ministry also got apprised of Pinky’s conviction and started the process to withdraw ‘gallantry medal’ awarded to him in 1997.

  1. We must not unnecessarily get on the wrong side of

    1) Nations
    2) Armies
    3) Polices
    4) Constitutions

They are all product of the EMPIRE and can do lot of harm and damage .
They are all potentially dangerous stuff .

  2. Withdrawing a medal from basically a nobody doesn’t do justice to countless persons killed in false encounters at the behest of Indian Govt.
