BREAKING: Preet Gill Wins Key Labour Seat; Becomes First Sikh Woman MP in UK

BIRMINGHAM, UK—Sandwell councillor Preet Gill has been elected as MP from Edgbaston.  She will be the first woman British Sikh MP in the Commons.

Birmingham Edgbaston was a key seat for the Labour Party.  Preet defeated Caroline Squire of the Conservative party.

Councillor Preet Gill was born and raised in Edgbaston.  She has been involved in key Sikh initiatives, including the campaign for Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma’s return to the UK.

Along with Preet, six other Sikhs are contesting elections –

Wolverhampton South West – Jagmeet Singh
Hornchurch & Upminster – Rocky Gill
Kenilworth & Southam – Bally Singh
Slough – Tanmanjeet Dhesi
Telford – Kuldip Singh Sahota
Tewkesbury – Manjinder Singh Kang
