More than 50,000 pilgrims pay obeisance at Sri Hemkunt Sahib within 10 days of its opening

RISHIKESH, Uttarakhand—Within ten days of opening of Sri Hemkunt Sahib gates, more than 50,000 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Sikh shrine situated in hills of Uttarakhand. Notably, the gates of Sri Hemkunt Sahib were opened on May 25.

Speaking to Sikh24 on June 7, Manager of Gurdwara Sri Gobindghat S. Sewa Singh informed that more than 5000 pilgrims were departing from Gobindghat to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib this morning. He further informed that they are observing a noticeable hike in pilgrim frequency from June 1 onwards.

Manager of Gurdwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib (Rishikesh) S. Darshan Singh informed that the Gurdwaras run by Sri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust serves ‘langar’ (free food) whole year for which the Sikh devotees send ration.  “Despite increased pilgrims, langar is being served without any shortages,” he added.

Vice-President of Sri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust S. Narinder Singh Bindra said that the journey to Sri Hemkunt Sahib was completely safe. He has appealed the Sikh masses to pay obeisance at Sri Hemkunt Sahib and receive blessings of Guru Sahib.  

Situated at altitude of 15,197 feet, Sri Hemkunt Sahib is a Sikh shrine in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh (1666–1708), the tenth Sikh master, and finds mention in Dasam Granth, a work dictated by Guru Sahib himself. With its setting of a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks, each adorned by a Nishan Sahib on its cliff.

  1. In sikh religion pilgrimage is prohibited. Salvation is not achieved by these junkets The sad story is how a lie has spread like a cancer on our religion. Sikhs don’t believe in so called pre life and prohibits doing any kind of meditations . Instead of wasting time in these junkets Sikhs should go back and start reading and following Guru Granth Sahib ji and achieve salvation right in this world.Oh by the way in case sikhs have forgotten Guru Gobind Singh ji ordered Sikhs to follow Guru Granth Sahib ji and nothing else. Please follow what He asked us to do.
