1984 Holocaust: SGPC appeals Sikh masses to attend anniversary event at Sri Akal Takht Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has appealed the Sikh masses to attend the 33rd anniversary of 1984 holocaust at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 6. He has also directed the worldwide Gurdwara committees to perform ‘Ardas’ on June 6 after culminating Sri Akhand Path Sahib in the memory of Sikhs who attained martyrdom during the 1984 holocaust.

Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that the June 1984’s attack on Sri Akal Takht Sahib by the Indian government was an example in itself in the whole world where a government used its army to massacre its own citizens. He added that the Sikh community could never forget this tragedy.

Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that the Sikh Gurdwaras were symbol of communal harmony in society but the Indian government had depicted its fanatic face by attacking Gurdwaras in June-1984.

He has appealed the Sikh masses to attend the anniversary event at Sri Akal Takht Sahib along with their families. He has also appealed the Sikh masses to offer prayers on June 6 in their residential areas for the martyrs of June-1984 who laid their lives while defending Sikh faith.

Notably, Prof. Badungar has been holding meetings with pro-freedom Sikh outfits, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and the Dal Khalsa.  He also appealed both organizations to attend the anniversary programs.  This is a new development as the SGPC has sidelined these organizations for a while.

  1. I m surprised why there are few comments by Sikhs from all over the world to the rhetorics coming from the SGPC & all other jathedars of the temples in memory of June 6 1984.
Talking the same speeches year in year our serves nothing as the Government of the day which is now Congress under Captain Amarinder Singh does nothing and before under Badal also does nothing.
So where do we Sikhs around the world stands.
Does your rhetorics and speeches change anything?

Let’s hear from the leaders of SGPC? What are you all doing of what happened on June 4 1984?

    Lakhbir Singh

  2. Khalsa was created by Vaheguru & in June 1984 it was Fateh of Vaheguru, when few members of Khalsa fauj with ordinary weapons showed to the Indian army with all their weapons which they use to attack other countries, real spirit of Khalsa. The memory of shaheedi & bravery of Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa, General Subaig Singh, babbar Khalsa & other jathebandies will always enlighten our hearts & the all shaheed Singhs & Singhnies are blessed by the Guru Sahib.

  3. No body can do any thing.
It is part of our history.
    We got to lump it.
Be careful of Nation and Constitution.

  4. No Sikh is going to forget 1984 . The question is what SGPC , DSGMC are doing for the shahdeeds of our nation. This lip service doesn’t do any good.

  5. you are making mistake comparing it to the holocaust.the jews did something and the germans responded.sikhs are not jews, not like them.
you people do not listen as to the real reason it occured,so you get bogged down in details.and it was in planning since 1947.its not about philosophy.
it was to try to destroy last trace of british raj.we are not like jews who have a reputational problem going back in history.it was an attack on the akal takht, the symbol of sikh jurisdiction.
