21 Sikh Freedom Fighters Killed By Police After Volunteering Surrender to Captain Amarinder

HOSHIARPUR, Punjab—Dal Khalsa have demanded that the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh must move beyond mere lip service and initiate an actual probe into the deaths of 21 Sikh freedom fighters who’s surrender he himself had negotiated and who were subsequently eliminated in fake encounters with the police in the early 90s.

Notably while speaking at the launch of The People’s Maharaja, a biography by Khushwant Singh, in Delhi, Amarinder Singh claimed that Chandra Shekhar (the then Prime Minister) betrayed him and that he was responsible for the death of the 21 militants.

Party leaders Kanwar Pal Singh, Satnam Singh and Ranbir Singh said Amarinder Singh has tactically admitted that 21 militants, who’s surrender he himself facilitated, were subsequently eliminated in a staged and managed encounter.

“Amarinder is known for bold admissions and going by his character he has endorsed how security forces and state police carried out illegal killings with impunity during the period of militancy.”

They said Amarinder’s admittance of mere regret at the deaths meant little to the victims and justice seekers.

“Coincidentally, Amarinder is in the pilot seat now. He is a witness and moreover, in a position to oversee a probe into the unlawful killings. If Amarinder is feeling any weight on his conscience, a fair justice to victims would relieve him. And to bring the guilty to book, an impartial and fair investigation is essential.”

Kanwar Pal Singh said he has read the book on Amarinder Singh. There are no detailed references of the 21 militants, except for Anokh Singh Ubhoke, who approached Amarinder to surrender. According the book, he was handed over to India’s Intelligence Bureau’s director in the presence of former PM Chandra Shekhar in 1991. Ukhoke was shown killed in an encounter in Dec 1992.

They added Amarinder felt betrayed by the former PM. Hence, he should not repeat the betrayal with the deceased men and their aggrieved families.

    • Harinder , who you are trying to appease by your comment, your rss peers . We are living in 21’st century not in your dream world of kauravas and what not. Just think how long it took your judicial system to hang Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh if that is the measuring stick then by now every criminal of 1984 genocide should have been punished . Here you are talking about sincere efforts not being made by sikhs to get justice, This statement insults the likes of Phoolka and others who has spent lifetime fighting for justice in your Indian courts and have gotten no where.

  3. Sikhs cannot expect any justice from these Indian politicians , our only recourse is to go to UN or world court.
