Gurbani Word Of The Day: saar

ਸਾਰੁ (saar)
Meaning: noun: Best, supreme, most excellent.

Quote:
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਛੋਡੈ ਭੈ ਵਸੈ   ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ॥
trisnaa chhodai bhai vasai   naanak karṇee saar.

Nanak! This is the most excellent action: that one forsakes craving and abides in the Divine awe. – Guru Amar Das, Guru Granth Sahib, 1089

Message: The purpose of all religious teaching is to help one to transform into a better human being. It is to transform one’s base nature into a higher or divine nature. It is to exalt and embellish one’s true godly nature internally and externally.

With the guidance of the Guru’s teachings, when we are empowered to recognise and control our excessive cravings and unnecessary desires for worldly possessions, we will move closer to the Creator.

We will recognize the all-pervading presence of the Divine and be motivated to walk in harmony with the Divine will. We will be illuminated with the graceful bliss of the Divine.

Etymology: From Sanskrit saar (best part; firm, strong) → Pali saar (heart; essential) → Prakrit saar (strength, wealth) → Apabhransh saaru (the best part, the whole) → Sindhi saaru and Kashmiri/Punjabi saar (essence).
