Indiana Senate unanimously recognizes contribution of Sikhs towards America

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana—The Indiana senate on April 21 unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the significant contribution made by the Sikh community towards the United States of America.

Introduced by the Mr. Suzanne Crouch, the Lieutenant governor of Indiana, the resolution reads, “The Indiana Senate recognizes and acknowledges the significant contributions that American Sikhs have made across the United States and to the State of Indiana”. The resolution was unanimously passed by the Indiana Senate.   

Eminent community leader and chairman of Sikhs Political Affairs Committee Gurinder Singh Khalsa started the senate session with a Sikh prayer.

United States vice-president Mike Pence sent his support for the resolution.

Also for the first time, Vaisakhi Day will be celebrated on May 15, 2017 in the Indiana State House with Governor Eric Holcomb.

Speaking with Sikh24, S. Gurinder Singh Khalsa said that the passage of the resolution is an important milestone in the history of Sikhs in the US. Notably, S. Gurinder Singh Khalsa has played an instrumental role in getting the resolution introduced in the Indiana state of USA and getting unanimously passed by the senate.
