CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In a petition launched on Change.org, the Khalsa Mission Organization is seeking criminal prosecution in 38 cases which were earlier put on stay.
“Despite a 2016 Supreme Court decision which lifted a cruel 15-year Stay on criminal prosecution of 38 cases out of the tens of thousands that human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra uncovered 22 years ago, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has again put a stay on the trial,” the petition states.
“This May, these 38 cases will be before the Court again: will human rights lawyers and media of conscience also be there?”
The petition states that Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra’s work and sacrifice, and the struggle by so many families and activists in Punjab ever since, is again being challenged today.
While the petition has close to 200 signatures, in Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party’s Chief whip Sukhpal Khaira has also asked the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder to order probe into extra judicial killings carried out by Punjab police cops during militancy period.
Seeking justice for the victim families of extra-judicial killings, Khaira has backed the petition launched by the Khalsa Mission Organization.
Sukhpal Khaira, who represents the Bholath constituency in Punjab assembly, said that the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had always tried to prove himself as a sympathizer of Sikh psyche by taking staunch steps against Government’s excesses on Sikh community.
He further said that Captain Amarinder Singh ought to appoint a commission of inquiry to avail justice to Sikh families victim of extra judicial killings. He said that thousands of families were awaiting justice from more than two decades whose loved ones were extra judicially murdered by the Police cops.
They should all be bought to court.
