Four Centuries Old Trees Bear Fruit At Sri Harmandir Sahib

Pilgrims at the Golden Temple, Amritsar

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Three historical berry trees (namely Dukh Bhanjan Beri, Lachi Beri and Beri Baba Budha Sahib Ji) situated in the periphery of sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib have been offering cool shade, sweet fruit and residence to birds for centuries.

The three jujube fruit trees have become an attraction for pilgrims as they have just borne fruit over the last few days. All this has become possible due to the tireless efforts of specialists appointed by the Punjab Agriculture University who have started taking care of three berry trees recently.

Speaking with Sikh24, the manager of Sri Harmandir Sahib, S. Sulakhan Singh said that the devotees aren’t allowed to tear berries but ripened berries fallen on the ground are often taken away by devotees as a blessing.
