Released Sikh Prisoner Rearrested By Indian Government

NEW DELHI, India—Political Sikh prisoner Bhai Gursewak Singh Babla, who had been released from jail in 2011, after serving 27 years of imprisonment, was once again arrested by the Delhi police on yesterday.

Delhi police have implicated him in a case of promoting terrorism in India by linking him with self styled chief of Khalistan Commando Force Paramjit Singh Panjwar who is currently residing in Pakistan.

Reportedly recovering a  pistol from Bhai Gursewak Singh Babla, the Delhi police have alleged that Bhai Babla is in the process of establishing a KCF base in Delhi with the help of gangs of car thieves and other criminals. The police have further claimed that Bhai Babla was committing bank and ATM robberies in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana with the help of Delhi’s criminals to raise funds to carry out terror activities in Delhi and Punjab. The Delhi police have further claimed that Bhai Babla was under pressure of KCF chief Paramjit Singh Panjwar to revive the base of KCF in Punjab and Delhi.

Bhai Gursewak Singh Babla was a close aide of the great Sikh of 20th century, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. He had played a leading role in carrying out high level militant actions carried out by militants including escape of Sikh militants Bhai Gurinder Singh Bhola, Bhai Swaranjit Singh and Bhai Sukhdev Singh from Jalandhar court on April 5, 1986. He was also involved in punishing the ‘Sarpanch’ of Nagoke village who was alleged of orchestrating the inhumane killing of Shaheed Bhai Kulwant Singh Nagoke by the Punjab police.

Although the police have linked Bhai Gursewak Singh Babla with KCF chief Paramjit Panjwar, the sources close to Bhai Babla have ruled out the Police’s claims as Bhai Babla was a staunch criticizer of internecine killings carried out by Panjwar clan.
