Punjab Assembly Polls: Kejriwal alleges of scam in ‘rigged’ EVM’s

NEW DELHI—Following the emphatic win of Congress in Punjab assembly polls, Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal has alleged of transfer of his AAP’s votes to the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP candidates. He has claimed that 25-30 per cent of votes of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) might have been transferred to the SAD-BJP combine in the recent Assembly polls by the means of ‘rigging’ in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Alleging of similar scene in Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand, Kejriwal has sought counting of slips of VVPAT (Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail) and match the figures with the outcome of EVMs in Punjab and other states where provision was available.

Interacting with media in Delhi, Kejriwal said that the Punjab results were very shocking for everyone. He further said that he accepts the defeat but the surprise hike of Congress votes in Punjab.”Developed countries have given up EVMs. Should we not rethink? Even the BJP including L.K Advani had said EVMs can be tampered with,” said Kejriwal while demanding ballot papers to be used in the next month’s Delhi civic elections.

He claimed that there was a widespread anger against the Akalis amongst Punjab masses and the AAP’s sweeping in the polls was sure. He further said that it was very shocking that the AAP got a vote share of about 25 per cent along with Lok Insaaf Party but the SAD-BJP got 31 per cent. How it could be possible? he questioned.

Meanwhile, it has come to fore that Bahujan Samaj Party head Mayavati in Uttar Pradesh has also alleged that the vote share of Bahujan Samaj Party was transferred to BJP candidates which witnessed a storming win with more than 300 seats out of total 403.

Mayawati has said that the BSP will file a petition in the court on this issue blaming that the EVMs were tampered with to transfer the BSP votes to BJP.
