Manpreet Badal refuses to take Government Security Cover

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—After winning the assembly polls from Bathinda (Urban) assembly segment, the Ex-Akali Cabinet minister Manpreet Badal has started depicting his serious and committed approach towards the state. Like he had earlier announced to demolish VVIP culture in the state, Manpreet Badal has denied accepting State government’s security cover and car with red light.

The State government’s security personnel today reached to his residence in Chandigarh to board him to Raj Bhawan for Swearing-in ceremony. But the newly appointed Finance minister Manpreet Badal refused to accept the state government’s facilities and reached the Raj Bhawan in his personal car along with his wife Veenu Badal.

It may be recalled here that in 2007 Manpreet was made finance minister in Parkash Badal led Punjab government. But later he was removed from this post over difference about debt waiver offer from the Centre with the rest of party. Subsequently he was expelled from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in October 2010.

Later, he had formed a new political party called People’s Party of Punjab. In the 2012 Punjab elections, his party formed political alliance with CPI, CPM and Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowal). He had contested the elections from the Gidderbaha and Maur constituencies losing from both seats. On 15 January, 2016 Manpreet had merged his party with the Congress.
