NEW DELHI—Supreme Court’s verdict on the petition challenging constitution of a separate Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee is likely to come on March 20.  Notably, the petition was moved by SGPC member S. Harbhajan Singh who represents the Kurukshetra constituency in the SGPC general house. The petition is under consideration of Supreme Court’s constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar.

The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee was constituted by Bhupinder Singh Hooda led Congress government of Haryana on July 11, 2014.

Before the constitution of the HSGPC, all Gurdwaras and SGPC institutions in the state were handled by SGPC, which has headquarters in Sri Amritsar.  SGPC claimed that HSGPC’s formation was unconstitutional as per the All India Gurdwara Act of 1925.  It has since challenge HSGPC’s existence by moving a petition in the court.  SGPC has also refused to grant keys to various Gurdwaras in Haryana to HSGPC, even though it was given legal status by Haryana Government.

SGPC claims that only Union Government of India has the right to establish Gurdwara Management Committees.

  1. The “CENTRAL COMMITTEE” committee could deal with matters which affects all or a sizeable fraction of SIKHS.
Also major disasters ,catastrophes ,genocides ,massacre ,or any threat to the community should also be taken up by the
    “CENTRAL COMMITTEE”

  2. I feel we need to have a “FEDERAL – UNITARY” system of administering our Gurudwaras.
Local matters of a particular State or Nation should be left to the Local Gurudwaras to handle .
In the unitary way we need to have a “CENTRAL COMMITTEE” consisting representative member form all Nations of Earth where we live.
May be in future we may added to this “CENTRAL COMMITTEE” member from different Planets and Galaxies and Universes.

  3. It is internal matter of sikhs and persons of other religions should not be allowed to meddle in our religion. I hope sikhs have learnt from the debacle caused by the British in 1925 not allowing all the historic gurdwara’s of India under control of SGPC and we know the results of that meddling.
