NEW DELHI—After more than two years of its probe in 1984 Sikh genocide cases, the Special Investigation Team appointed by the Union government of India has filed charge sheets only in four reopened cases. Notably, the SIT was constituted on February 12, 2015 by the Narendra Modi led Union government of India to re-probe the cases pertaining to genocidal violence against Sikhs in November 1984 in which Sikhs were brutally murdered by the Hindu mobs across Delhi.

Initially, the tenure of SIT was fixed for six months but later its tenure was extended for two years in multiple steps. Recently, the tenure of SIT has been extended till August 11, 2017.

In a status report filed in the Supreme Court in response to a PIL (Personal Interest Litigation), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has said that 38 of the cases taken up for further probe have been closed while 17 were still under investigation.

The report further reads, “It is being ensured that investigation is carried out expeditiously and thoroughly. No stone is being left unturned to ensure a thorough and comprehensive investigation.”

Apart from the said 59 cases in which further probes were carried out, 293 cases were taken up for scrutiny and 199 of them have been closed, the MHA informed the court in its status report. Of these, preliminary enquiries (PEs) were conducted in 35 cases and 28 PEs have been completed while 7 PEs were pending.

“A large number of representations relating to these cases have been received from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and other private persons/bodies which are being examined by the SIT and further necessary action is being taken,” read the status report.

The SIT examined and recorded statements of more than 1,000 witnesses, including one witness from New York through video conferencing with the assistance of Consulate General of India, New York and Ministry of External Affairs, it said.

  1. Any society must be Law abiding and Justice loving .
We need to promote it where ever we live in .
In India where we underwent the 84 genocide due to our poor leader ship and grasp of “World Order ” we need to make India into an law abiding Nation.

  2. So you feel we should abandon Justice as our core cherished value.
We need to actually strengthen our resolve for Justice in spite of a 3 rd genocide -84 heaped on us.
We must take and learn lessons from all our previous genocides so as to prevent a genocide -4.

  3. It is important we cherish and always stand by the virtue of
    JUSTICE
An genocide with loss of 30,000 boys should not make us to give up this golden value.
We need to ressurect our selves from genocide -84 and carry the banner of JUSTICE in every nook and corner of the infinite universe we live in.

  4. Mr harinder you know very well sikhs stand up for human rights of everyone under all the circumstances. If we want to show the world how sikh rules apply then we need the independent Sikh State where the laws will be established as per sikh doctrine. Only then we can tell the world what they can do with their laws.

    • Nations are created and destroyed by EMPIRES.
This is an exclusive right EMPIRES enjoy.
No Nation can exist on this planet without its explicit permission or Nod.
Remember that our Nation of King Ranjit Singh was destroyed by the BRITISH EMPIRE.

  5. So should we also be doing similar things of doing genocides and then denying it.
We need to ask our selves how much we cherish justice and are we going to be dump justice just because a genocide was heaped on us.

  6. This is called passing the buck ? All these committees are just an eyewash to make fool of the sikhs and further torturing the victims who are hoping to get justice in their lifetimes.Indian democracy working in style.

  7. In Punjab we need to set up a model society and legal system where no one is ever denied justice.
It is one of our cardinal way of life for a SIKH.
Rest of the world can do what it feels like with its legal system.
