Gurbani Word Of The Day: ugrsain

ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ (ugrsain)
Meaning: noun: The King of Mathura and the father of Kans.

Quote:
ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਦਰੁ ਸੁਦਾਮਾ   ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਏ॥
daasee sut jan bidar sudaamaa   ugrsain ko raaj dee-e.
(O Divine! Through your love and devotion) Bidar, the son of a slave-girl, and Sudama (a poor Brahmin) were saved, and You restored Ugrasen to his throne. – Bhagat Namdev, Guru Granth Sahib, 345

Message: Ugrasen, a pious and devoted man, was the King of Mathura. He was dethroned by his wicked son Kans. As good triumphs over evil, Krishna kills Kans and reinstates Ugrasen who is a devotee of the Divine.

In the verse above, Bhagat Namdev has made reference to some of the personalities who were saved from misfortune by the Divine through Krishna. It is their love and devotion to the Divine that has helped them through.

Are we strong enough in our faith to receive the reward that awaits us?
