PATIALA, Punjab—After a period of 7 years, Sikh political prisoners Bhai Makhan Singh Gill and Bhai Gurmukh Singh were today released from the Nabha Jail.
Family members of both Sikhs appreciated the efforts by the Sikh Relief team. Sikh Relief provided legal assistance to both Singhs for the past 7 years.
Bhai Makhan Singh Gill was arrested in 2010 and charged with a number of false cases. He has been fighting to clear his name ever since. However in 2013, an Amritsar Sessions Court took a very disturbing step when it convicted him and Gurmukh Singh under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities Act.
Bhai Makhan Singh was handed a harsh sentence of ten years in prison and ordered to pay heavy fines, alongside his co-accused – Bhai Pal Singh (France) and Bhai Gurmukh Singh.
While Bhai Pal Singh (France) has also been acquitted, he is yet to be released.
This responsibility also rests on SGPC and Akali Dal to see that life of Sikh boys is not wasted in JAILS.
Who made those laws, we need to teach our children to stand up against any law which denies basic human rights?
We need to teach our children of how not to get on the wrong side of LAW.
Waheguru bless all the human rights activists who are fighting the gross injustices in punjab.
