SGPC Directed to Provide List of Akali Leaders Who Visited Dera Sacha Sauda

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—SGPC has been asked by Giani Gurbachan Singh to investigate the visit by several Akali politicians to Dera Sacha Sauda.  In direct confrontation of Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s edict issued in 2007 against Dera Sacha Sauda, senior members of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) visited the dera on January 26 to seek its blessings and votes.  Dera Sacha Sauda, based out of Sirsa, Haryana, is an anti-Sikh cult whose chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is facing charges of rape and murder, and is currently undergoing investigations by the CBI.

In a written correspondence to the SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, Giani Gurbachan Singh (the SGPC appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib) asked for a complete list of Akali leaders who visited the notorious dera.  The written letter asks SGPC President to provide a full investigation report of the matter.

Sikh24 shared pictures of Akali leaders, including Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Jagdeep Singh Nakai,  Sikander Singh Maluka, Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, Dilraj Singh Bhunder, Amit Ratan and Harpeet Singh at the birth anniversary of Sirsa Cult’s former chief Shah Satnam on January 26.

Giani Gurbachan Singh stated that the 2007 hukamnama was still intact and any Sikh leader who visited the dera must face religious punishment.

SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar could be not be reached for comment as he is currently taking time off due to his brother’s passing away.

Prof. Badungar’s younger brother S. Amrik Singh passed away on February 2.  Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh refused to comment on Sacha Sauda issue.  “Prof. Badungar is currently away as the family has faced a severe loss with demise of S. Amrik Singh.  We will probe into the incident very soon.”

Meanwhile, SGPC appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Gurmukh Singh said that the Shiromani Akali Dal has totally lost its character.  During a TV interview, he said that the Shiromani Akali Dal has challenged the Akal Takht Sahib by refusing to follow the edict against Sirsa based cult.

Giani Gurmukh Singh said that Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has cleverly played a card to place Shiromani Akali Dal in front of outraged Sikh masses. He claimed that by violating the sacred Hukamnama, the executives of Shiromani Akali Dal have depicted their lust for power and unfortunately they are also going to lose their Sikh vote bank.

On being asked whether he will resign from his post, Giani Gurmukh Singh said that he currently doesn’t have any plan to quit from his post but if the Sikh Panth would ask him to resign then he would abide by its wishes.
