Defamation Case: Majithia and Kejriwal Skip Court Hearing Due to Busy Schedule

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—On February 1, the Amritsar Court conducted hearing on the defamation case filed by Revenue Minister of Punjab Bikram Majithia against Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal for terming him kingpin of drug mafia in Punjab. Notably, the AAP’s state incharge Sanjay Singh and another AAP leader Ashish Khetan were also sued by Majithia in the Court in this case.

The prosecution as well as defense sides remain absent from the hearing in Court in wake of election campaigns ongoing for polls due on February 4. Bikram Majithia as well as Arvind Kejriwal sought relaxation of personal appearance from the Court citing their busy schedule in elections.

Majithia’s counsel told the Court that his client was busy in election campaign in his turf constituency Majitha due to which he couldn’t appear before the Court.

Appearing before the Court, Advocate Parminder Singh Sethi also moved application seeking relaxation from personal appearance for his clients Arvind Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khetan. Sethi told the Court that Kejriwal was engaged in a public rally at Jalandhar while Sanjay Singh would have to attend election campaign in Rajpura. Similarly, he cited the reason of public meeting in Delhi for Ashish Khetan.
