Kabir says, those who do not remember the Divine have drowned (in worldly temptations even though they were known to be) very clever. – Bhagat Kabir, Guru Granth Sahib, 1124

Message: Most of us remain engrossed in excessive lust, wrath, greed and worldly desires. We are busy in making every effort to preserve the body, which only survives until its time is up.

Due to our ignorance and arrogance, we remain trapped in a vicious circle with the assumption that everything can be achieved. We seem to think that we are the centre of power and everything should revolve around us.

Let’s move away from this delusion and seek true understanding. Right understanding creates an awareness of true reality.

With this awareness, we realise that everything happens according to the laws of nature (hukam). Of course we must make every effort to advance spiritually as well, but at the same time, let us not forget the importance of gratitude and humility in our life.

Etymology: From Sanskrit buḍyati (sinks) → Prakrit buḍḍai (sinks), buḍḍa (sunk), buḍḍaavai (makes sink) → Sindhi buḍaṇu, Lahndi buḍḍaṇ, Punjabi buḍḍṇaa (to sink), Old Awadhi booḍai (sinks).

The current form ḍubi and its variants are also used in Gurbani, which stem from Sanskrit ḍubb (sink) → Pashai Dardic ḍub (to be drowned) → Maithili ḍoob (sinking), Kashmiri ḍuban (to dive, sink, be ruined), Sindhi dialect ḍubṇoo (to sink, be drowned), and Punjabi ḍubbṇaa (to sink).
