KAPURTHALA, Punjab—Jathedar Narinder Singh Khusropur, who has been nominated by the Panthak Front from the Kapurthala assembly constituency, is receiving a robust response in his election campaign. Despite being a fresh candidate and being tarnished with a radicalist image, masses of his constituency are extending support to him.
After thoroughly evaluating the chances of success and performance factors of candidates nominated by the Simranjit Singh Mann led Panthak Front, Jathedar Khusropur appears to be the second most strongest candidate of the Panthik Front after SAD (Amritsar) President Simranjit Singh Mann, who is contesting the assembly polls from the Barnala constituency.
Although, mainstream media outlets of Punjab are projecting the ballot battle as a triangular contest within all of the 117 assembly constituencies, the reality on the ground within the Kapurthala constituency appears to be vastly different. It is being felt that the contest in the Kapurthala constituency was going to be quadrangular despite the wealthy approach of mainstream parties like Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, Aam Admi Party in the election.
Narpat Kumar, a local resident of Kapurthala, said that the entrance of Jathedar Narinder Singh Khusropur in the election fray has made the fight tough for all three mainstream party candidates. He further said that Jathedar Khusropur has a well reputed image among Sikhs as well as within Hindu sections of Kapurthala residents. “He is known for his honest and blatant and tough stances in issues”, he added.
Chief Organizing Secretary of Youth Akali Dal Amritsar Bhai Papalpreet Singh said that personalities like Jathedar Narinder Singh Khusropur need to be promoted in Punjab politics. Appreciating the sincerity of Jathedar Khusropur regarding problems facing the public, he said that the issues of Punjab like the drugs epidemic, farmer’s suicides, the economizing of education etc. could only be sorted out if leaders like Jathedar Khusropur are brought forward by the common masses of Punjab.
