Jarnail Singh submitted his resignation to Delhi assembly speaker Ramniwas Goyal on January 6.

To be able to contest the election from Lambi, Jarnail Singh had his vote revoked from Delhi so he could vote in Lambi constituency.  He was earlier denied voting right from Lambi constituency by the Election Commission, which  asked him to quit from Delhi assembly to receive voting right in Punjab.

Jarnail Singh, a former journalist by profession, had come into limelight when he had hurled shoe on former Congress minister P. Chidambram for not answering a question about 1984 Sikh genocide. Later, he was inducted by the Aam Aadmi Party and was nominated for Parliament seat of Rajauri Garden in 2014 from where he had lost the election. Later, he succeeded in winning the assembly seat of Rajauri Garden in February 2015.

After becoming an MLA, he played vital role in getting the ‘Condemnation Resolution’ passed by the Delhi assembly about 1984 Sikh genocide.
