TARN TARAN, Punjab—Dr. Gurjinder Singh, the President of Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala (Amritsar), has been nominated as a candidate from the Tarn Taran assembly segment to represent the political front led by S. Simranjit Singh Mann. Dr. Gurjinder Singh is renowned in the Majha zone for his campaigns against anti-Sikh elements and state excesses. He played a vital role launching sit-in-strikes at Harike bridge and Tarn Taran cross roads, causing a blockage of the national highway, during state-wide protests at the desecration incidents in October 2015. He was also the organizer of the agitation launched in Beas in response to the announcement made by Shiv Sena to remove the photo of the great Sikh of 20th century Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale from the Central Sikh museum in June 2016.
A brief of his conversation with Sikh24 is being represented here:
Question: How are you feeling after being fielded by to represent Tarn Taran?
Answer: I feel it is my good fortune that I have been fielded from my native constituency Tarn Taran, where I have spent my whole life while serving the Sikh cause. I am thankful to SAD (Amritsar) Simranjit Singh who has given me a chance to contest the poll from this assembly segment.
Question: Every assembly constituency has a different political landscape. Currently, what are the issues that you are to raise for your constituency?
Answer: The assembly constituency of Tarn Taran is a Sikh dominanted constituency, but unfortunately it is facing a severe crisis on every front. Incidents of desecration, the drug menace, police excesses, corruption etc. all are at a peak in Tarn Taran due to being ruled by a Badal affiliated legislator, Harmeet Singh Sandhu. There is a wave of wide spread outrage against the misrule of the Badal led Shiromani Akali Dal, across Punjab, and similarly in Tarn Taran too.
Question: You have mentioned the drug menace in Tarn Taran. Your constituency is named as top among the constituencies notorious for the drug issue in Punjab. Do you feel a special need to address this issue in your constituency?
Answer: Drugs like ‘smack’, heroin, have engulfed the youth of almost the entire Tarn Taran constituency and its neighbouring constituencies. It is very unfortunate that the name of the sitting Akali legislator of my constituency surfaces as a suspect in most of the drug seizures made by the Narcotic Control Bureau and the District Police but each time he is protected by the Akali government.
If I am chosen to spearhead my assembly constituency in due polls, putting the drug traders and vendors behind bars would be my first priority.
Beside this, I will also bring under control the excesses of the police under a direct approach or through political pressure.
Recently on December 31, a youth of village Lalpur succumbed during police torture at Sadar Police station in Tarn Taran. Although, the youth was accused in a double murder case of family members of a head constable, this doesn’t mean the Police have a right to deliver excessive torture instead of the allegations against the accused aren’t proved with evidence. If the accused is held guilty, punishing him is the court’s concern, not the police.
Question: Organizations within the Panthik Front have an image of being ‘radical’ on Sikh issues. It is suspected that the ‘radical’ image will detach the vote bank of Hindu or other communities away from PF candidates. What are your thoughts on this?
Answer: Look, we are committed to the Sikh faith but it doesn’t mean that we are in the business of forcing someone to quit his religion and join ours. We are victims of media bias by the mainstream outlets. We are always projected in a negative manner at the behest of customary political parties and state agencies.
Recently in a border district, the sculptures of Hindu deities of a temple were thrown into a mud pond by some miscreants affiliated to the ruling party. The members of Hindu community staged a sit-in-strike and used every tactic to force the administration and government to reinstall the sculptures back in the temple but all of their efforts went in vain. In the end, SAD (Amritsar) President Simranjit Singh Mann reached there and intervened in the matter, forcing the administration to re-install the sculptures back into temple.
Similarly, a cult chief in village Bahadar Nagar near Valtoha (in the Khemkaran constituency) used to insure and kill his cattle to claim insurance money. I immediately took action upon being informed of the matter and staged a sit-in-strike at cross road of Valtoha forcing police to indict him under section 295-A of Indian Penal Code.
We are tools of justice for the needy and meek, but mainstream media always project us in negative manner under a highly deliberated policy, using words like ‘ultra’, ‘radical’, ‘communal’, and ‘hardliners’ etc.
Question: Would you like to convey any message via Sikh24?
Answer: I appeal to all masses of Punjab and other countries to come and join us in our struggle to oust the hooliganism of the Badal clan from Punjab. The historical culture of Punjab is on a verge of crisis due to the uncontrolled drug epidemic and state sponsored opression.
We are sacrificing our comfortable lives but recognition our efforts are in your hands.

Just recently in a Chennai cinema they violently set upon patrons who had not stood up for the playing of the anthem and murdered a Dalit and a Muslim for transporting cows – thuggish ultranationalist violence the Nazis engaged in throughout the 1930s towards any German citizen deemed not ‘German’. The RSS has engaged in re-indoctrination programmes like Ghar Wapsi which are akin to the brainwashing programmes the Nazis used on their population and like the Nazis RSS members and indeed the party itself has been outlawed and deemed a criminal organisation many times for its brutish violence towards minorities. The RSS has been involved in attacks against mosques and churches just as the Nazis did against Jewish synagogues. The RSS is a supremacist organisation which like its fascist counterpart the Nazis has tried to rewrite history to create a mythological past.
The RSS is deliberately modelled on the SS of Hitler’s Nazi party because Indians don’t comprehend the full horror of subscribing to where ultra nationalism leads. Take a good hard look at what the RSS actually stands for (its murder of the father of the nation clearly demonstrates its intolerant supremiscist doctrine from the start and where the hell was the RSS anyway in India’s fight for independence, Sikhs were at the forefront with the formation of the Ghadr party and the NLA as well as avenging the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre) and remember that patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel. Former Maharastraa Inspector General of Police S M Mushrif termed the BJP’s ideological mentor RSS as India’s top terrorist organisation in November 2015. He claims that RSS activists have been indicted in at least 13 terror cases across India. “RSS activists have been charge sheeted in at least 13 cases of terror acts in which RDX explosives has been used. IF organisations like Bajrang Dal are taken into account then the number of such cases goes up to 17””, said Mushrif.“The RSS is India’s number one terrorist organisation, there is no doubt on this” said Mushrif, referring to the 2007 Mecca Masjid bombing in Hyderabad, the 2006 and 2008 Malegaon blasts in Maharashtra and the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombings among others. “The RSS as a terror organisation has nopthing to do with political power. IT is immaterial which party is in power. It is the system that is working, it’s the Brahminical system. And when I say Brahminical, it doesn’t mean the Brahmin, it’s the mentality, the attitude to dominate and oppress” he said. RSS is a clear and present danger not only to the Sikhs (with its agenda of embracing Sikhism into the fold of Hinduism) but to all other religious minorities in India. Their beliefs are akin to the Moghul belief of hegemony and dominance over other peoples in the subcontinent and as such the Khalsa’s response must be the same – to resist such despotism. IN the RSS case it is also currently the militant woing of the ruling BJP which gives it enormous power and influence to use the apparatus of a nation state against peoples it does not consider to be pure. One only has to look at its programme of rewriting unfavourable (to its image) history in school text books in India and its abominal Ghar Wapsi initiative to see the danger. Perhaps you wish to acclaim CM Badal for being a fine family man for camping in Delhi for nine days to get his daughter-in-law Harsimrat Badal (same woman who went on live Punjabi TV to say she did not know who the owners of a bus company were who had employed a rapist driver when she was one of the owners herself!) appointed as a Union Cabinet Minister but couldn’t find any time during that sojourn in Delhi to fight for justice for the victims of 1984 Sikh genocide. He has maintained cordial relationship with central Government in the same way a pimp maintains good relations with his best customer as Punjab is repeatedly raped of its river waters. I don’t think your friend Badal wants any focus on drug menance, his lackey Majithia who is accused biggest drug lord in Punjab would certainly object.
