TARN TARAN, Punjab—The Sikh youth bodies Sikh Youth Sewa Dal and Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala collaboratively conducted an awareness march named ‘Gurbani Adab Satkar March’ on November 24 in Tarn Taran. The march was aimed at creating awareness among common masses regarding the code of conduct to be followed while handling the sacred Sikh scriptures.
The march started from rest house of Sri Darbar Sahib amid chants of ‘Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal’ and concluded at main gate of Sri Darbar Sahib after traversing the major localities of town like Bohri, Char Khamba, and Tehsil.
Addressing media, SYSD President Bhai Sukhchain Singh Gopala said that the march was aimed creating awareness among the public, regarding the code of conduct to be followed while handling sacred Sikh scriptures. He said that the uncontrolled sale of Sikh scriptures within shops without permission was the major reason for the rising incidents of sacrilege across Punjab. “Sacrilege committers purchase Sikh scriptures from common stores, where no record is maintained of the purchaser”, he added.
SYFB President Bhai Balwant Singh Gopala said that majority of Sikhs who have installed the Sri Guru Granth Sahib in their homes weren’t aware of the code of conduct to be followed. “Even in some houses there is no arrangement for a different ‘Singhasan’ to place the Holy Scripture after performing ‘Sukh Asan’ in the evening” he added.
Senior Vice President of SYFB Bhai Ranjit Singh Damdami Taksal said that the Supreme Sikh body SGPC needs to begin a campaign to create awareness among common masses about the code of conduct to be followed while interacting with Sikh scriptures.
