SGPC & DSGMC Draw Legal Plans To Deal With Racist Jokes Against Sikhs

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has strongly condemned the portraying of the tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh Ji as a descendant of Hindu deity Parsu Ram. On invitation cards for a function to be held at Pragati Maidan (New Delhi) in commemoration of 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the organizers portrayed Guru Gobind Singh Ji as descendant of Hindu deity Parsu Ram and had also printed photo of Swami Vivekanand parallel to Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Interacting with media on November 25, Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that the SGPC won’t tolerate any activity trying to denigrate the Sikh dignity. He added that any attack on Sikh tenets would be taken seriously by the SGPC to set an example for future so that no one could dare to perform such act again.

He added that religious personalities of all religions were respectable but they ought to take care of the feelings of Sikhs while marking any event of other religions.

At the directions of the Supreme Court to present a draft of guidelines to tackle issue of jokes on Sikhs, the SGPC and the Delhi equivalent, DSGMC have suggested the Apex Court to brought the issue under the ambit of ‘ragging’, which is banned.

The punishment for this transgression is  adequate to control racial slur in educational institutions and work places across the Indian sub-continent.

The suggestions further reads as if any act of ragging, bullying, ridiculing and mocking on account of religion, race, caste, ethnicity and physical appearance should be dealt with by punishments ranging from warnings, suspension, withholding of scholarships & other benefits and examination results beside expulsion. The suggestion however urges the Court to not to include the students of class 8 or below.

The SGPC has also suggested cancellation of affiliation of educational institutions if they fail to control the racial slur in their institutes.

Interestingly, Sh. Deepak Kumar ji sent a written apology due to his comparisons of Guru Gobind Singh ji with a Hindu deity. The organizers from his event apologized to the whole Sikh community for hurting their religious sentiments unintentionally.

  1. I don’t have any words to describe how stupid ( for lack of any better word)our so called leaders in SGPC OR DSGMC are ?.It is our religion and we decide how to run it but these people went to Supreme Court to define our religion. Remember case of sehajdhari sikhs. According to these only Keshdhari sikhs can vote for the election of officers of SGPC and the supreme court agreed with them . This is the only decision I can think off in which Supreme Court agreed with these so called representative of Sikhs. Because they knew by doing this they can kill this community by agreeing with their stupidity. Can you imagine disenfranchising thirty percent of your religious population from participating. I can understand the office holders should be Amritdhari Sikhs and that can be done by just modifying our documents and only amritdhari sikh can fight the election. For rest of the voters a document can be prepared which one has to answer before voting to check their legitimacy.I remember an incident in the last SGPC election( as shown on tv) where a clean shaven person was provided a short turban to wrap around his head out side the polling tent before voting. After voting this person came out and the reporter asked him who did you vote for :his reply was he voted for the sarkar meaning Badal’s candidate. So much for turbaned sikhs only voting in the election. With the help of Supreme Court Sikhi is being wiped out under our noses and they are worried about jokes?

  2. Guru Nanak Dev Jio kirpa as it is not just in india but on the web, media publications etc dishonor and mislead about our Great Pita Maharaj atey Sikhi..

  3. The SGPC are the ones who make Sikhs a laughing stock so how can they protect Sikh dignity and defend it from Hinduvta propaganda and heresy?
