2017 Assembly Polls: Kejriwal Promises To Reserve Deputy CM Post For Schedule Caste

GORAYA, Jalandhar, Punjab—In a bid to woo 32% of the so-called scheduled caste population of Punjab, ahead of the 2017 assembly polls, the AAP’s National Convener and Chief Minister of Delhi Sri Arvind Kejriwal released a 19-point ‘Dalit Manifesto’ at a rally in Goraya (Jalandhar) on November 25.

Addressing AAP supporters present in the rally, Kejriwal announced that the Deputy Chief Minister post will be reserved for an SC candidate if AAP formed government in Punjab in 2017.

Kejriwal said that the other parties only makes fake promises for Dalits and nominates SC candidates only from constituencies reserved for SCs.

“Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar had said that Dalits can be brought into mainstream by sharing power with them and we will do that”, said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal claimed that it will be difficult for Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress to match what AAP has announced for Dalits. He added that the AAP enjoyed the full confidence of Dalits in Delhi by winning all the 12 reserved seats and the Dalits were being rewarded with free medical and educational facilities in Delhi.

It is pertinent to note here that 33 out of total 117 assembly constituencies in Punjab are reserved for Dalits. Interestingly, 23 out of total 33 reserved assembly constituencies fall in the Doaba region (between Beas and Satluj rivers).

The Aam Admi Party also made several other announcements:

  1. Handing over of Common land (Shamlaat Zameen) owned by village Panchayats to Dalits which is being utilized by Politicians by influence of Power.
  2. Clearance of backlog of vacancies for Dalits
  3. Loan worth Rs. 2 lakh without Guarantee to start business
  4. Compensation worth Rs. 10,000/- per month to Farm laborers in case of Crop failure
  5. Special Cell for implementation of Post-Matriculation Scholarship Scheme
  6. Increase in Shagun amount to Rs. 51000/- and Old age pension to Rs. 2000/- per month

  8. Starting of Old age pension at the age of 58 years
  9. Loan worth Rs. 10 lakh from Banks to students for Higher Education on guarantee of Government
