Navjot Sidhu announces to keep ‘Awaz-e-Punjab’ a political forum only

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—”Saving Punjab is my main goal”, these were the words by former MP Navjot Sidhu when he announced that he will not form a new political party to contest Punjab polls.  Sidhu cleared the speculation earlier today at a press conference.  He was earlier formed ‘Awaz-e-Punjab’ in alliance with Bains brothers from Ludhiana and MLA Pargat Singh after quitting BJP’s Rajya Sabha membership in July this year.

Addressing the press conference at Chandigarh today, Navjot Sidhu said that the time was too short to establish a new party ahead of 2017’s assembly polls.  “It will need minimum two years to establish party in Punjab for its well-being,” he added.

Sidhu’s announcement also paved way for him to form alliance with other political party, which means his wife could potentially contest the elections on Aam Aadmi Party’s nomination.

Holding the Badals and Captain Amarinder Singh responsible for the plight of Punjab in last 15 years, Navjot Sidhu said he didn’t want to indirectly benefit the Badal nexus by dividing anti-incumbency vote bank.

“I have pondered over the political scene of Punjab and weighed the pros & cons of establishing new party. I have now concluded to refrain from confusing the Punjab masses and help them in clarifying the political scenario,” he added.

Justifying the decision of his husband, Sidhu’s wife Dr. Navjot Sidhu said that Mr. Sidhu has made this announcement keeping in mind the voters who were getting confused.  “Our front will extend its support to those people who will work for betterment of Punjab,” she added.
