Hondh Chillad Massacre: Haryana Government Distributes Compensation Among Victim Families

GURGAON, India—As per the recommendations of Justice TP Garg, the compensation checks for the victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide were distributed among the victim families of Haryana in Gurgaon on August 28. The Haryana government approved compensation worth Rs. 12.07 crore for 150 victim families from the Sikh genocide in Haryana.

The checks were distributed among the 42 victim families in a program held at the main Gurdwara Sahib of Gurgaon. The Chairman of the National Minority Commission, Naseem Ahmed, distributed the checks to the families.  

The Haryana government had sanctioned the compensation on the recommendations of Investigation Commission led by Justice TP Garg in its report submitted on April 30, 2016.  The announcement to distribute compensation among victim families was made on July 31, 2016.

Sikh Activist and engineer, Manwinder Singh Giaspura played a prominent role in the investigations and collecting evidence against anti-Sikh massacres in Haryana during 1984.  Giaspura who was working in a company in Gurgaon as a Mechanical Engineer at the time when he exposed the site in Haryana where 32 Sikhs were burnt alive by mobs.  Giaspura was informed about this site by his milkman in January 2011.

Manvinder Singh Giaspura then researched the facts about it and prepared a detailed report on it, which was later exposed in the media. Panthik Organizations and SGPC then took serious notice of this.  Several similar incidents have come to the fore since this exposure, this allowed the Haryana Government to initiate an investigation commission.

The Government had announced compensation as follows –

In 81 cases pertaining to harm to residential homes of Sikhs in Gurgaon, compensation worth Rupees 500,000 has been sanctioned. Similarly, compensation of same worth will be given to 15 victims of home damage in Pataudi. Out of 5 cases of poultry farm, two will be given financial aid worth Rupees 1 lakh and the rest three will be given aid worth 50 thousands. In two cases pertaining to harming of commercial places, compensation worth Rupees 500,000 has been specified.     

In two cases pertaining to harm to motor vehicles, one will be given grant worth Rs. 200,000 while the other will be given grant worth Rs. 100,000. In cases of 41 shops in Gurgaon, 31 will be granted compensation worth Rs. 100,000 while the other 10 will be given grant worth 50,000.

Out of 13 shops in Pataudi, 9 will be given compensation worth Rupees 100,000, three will be given compensation worth 200,000 and the remaining one will be given financial aid worth Rs. 200,000. In two cases pertaining to Transport and Finance Companies, one will be given compensation of Rs. 1,000,000 and the other will be given compensation worth Rs. 200,000.   

In two cases of destruction of Gurdwaras in Gurgaon & Pataudi, one will be granted grant compensation worth Rs. 100,000 and the other would be given Rs. 400,000.

  1. No one went to jail for this crime , compensation,figure it out 5 lakhs for a lost life comes out to be 43 rupees and 40 paisa per day and if anybody believes that is justice should have his or head examined.
