Navjot Sidhu to Join AAP on August 14, BJP Senior Leader Appeals To Reconsider Decision

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—As per recent reports by the NDTV, former Rajya Sabha member Navjot Sidhu will be joining the Aam Aadmi Party on August 14, the Indian Independence Day.  Although this report has not been confirmed by the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal has held a meeting with Sidhu following his resignation from the Rajya Sabha.

Meanwhile, BJP’s senior leader and Industrial Minister of Punjab, Madan Mohan Mittal has refuted the allegations leveled by Navjot Sidhu against the BJP.  Sidhu had earlier blamed the BJP for deliberately keeping him focused on non-Punjab issues.  In regards to allegations by Sidhu, on July 27 while speaking with the press, Mittal said, “Sidhu was always respected within the leadership of Punjab and that is how it will always remain.  He is a key player for the BJP in Punjab.”

Mittal appealed Navjot Sidhu to re-consider his decision and join hands with the BJP.  “Sidhu should refrain from committing the mistake of joining the Aam Aadmi Party as there are no hopes for its future after the 2017 assembly polls.”

“We will honour and respect Sidhu as earlier if he rejoins the BJP,” Mittal said.

Navjot Sidhu had earlier blamed the BJP leadership on July 26 that the state leadership of BJP was working under pressure of its ally, the Shiromani Akali Dal.  He blamed the Akali Dal for mounting pressure on the BJP to oust Sidhu from Punjab.  Sidhu further stated that the core BJP leadership asked him to contest the elections from Kurukshetra or Delhi in 2014 despite delivering the esteemed seat of Amritsar to the Party in adverse circumstances.  Giving unclear indications of joining AAP, he said that no ideology was bigger than serving his motherland Punjab.
