2015 Alleged Beadbi Culprit Shot Dead by Unidentified Assailants near Ludhiana

LUDHIANA, Punjab—A woman named Balwinder Kaur, accused of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at village Ghawaddi, was today shot dead by two unidentified assailants near Ludhiana.  The incident took place earlier today in the morning when two men riding a motorcycle fired upon Balwinder, leading to fatal wounds.

Balwinder Kaur, aged 48, was in judicial custody since October 2015 for committing sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at village Ghawaddi on October 19, 2015, and was out on bail.  She was shot outside the Gurdwara Manji Sahib in Alamgir when she arrived there to meet with someone.  Balwinder was accompanied by her son, who was not targeted during the attack.

Balwinder Kaur and her husband Sikander Singh were both arrested for committing sacrilege in October 2015.  While Balwinder was working as a sevadar at the Ghawaddi Gurdwara for over two decades before she was arrested in connection with the sacrilege case, her husband was the Granthi there.
