MLA Pargat Singh And Inderbir Singh Bolaria Suspended By Shiromani Akali Dal

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Smelling the forthcoming goodwill lost for Shiromani Akali Dal, the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and President of the ruling Akali Dal, Sukhbir Badal suspended MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria and Pargat Singh accusing them of creating indiscipline in the party. Interestingly, the duo legislators have had a bitter relationship with the Party’s core leadership due to the installation of the Solid Waste Treatment Plants in their constituencies.  The move took place yesterday, July 19.

The ex-Captain of the Indian Hockey Team, Pargat Singh, was elected as the legislatoShiromani Akali Dalr from Jalandhar (Cantonment) in the 2012 assembly polls on Akali Dal’s ticket. He joined the Akali Dal after resigning from the post of Sports Director and Superintendent of Police (SP). He recently rejected the post of Chief Parliamentary Secretary offered by the Chief Minister due to differences with the core leadership of the Akali Dal on the Solid Waste Treatment Plant in his constituency. It is being speculated that the Akali Dal took the move speculating Pargat Singh’s attempts to join AAP.

On being contacted by Sikh24, the legislator Pargat Singh said that he was fed up of the dictatorship in Akali Dal. ‘There is no symbol of democracy in Akali Dal’ he added.

Inderbir Singh Bolaria, an Akali legislator from Amritsar (South) renowned for his rapport with constituents, was also expelled from Akali Dal. Commenting on his suspension from the party, Bolaria said that it was not a surprise for him. ‘I had already quitted Akali Dal a few months back’ he added.

In a press note released by the Shiromani Akali Dal, SAD’s spokesperson Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema clarified that the duo legislators have been suspended to give a strong signal to the party members that indiscipline would not be tolerated at any cost. He informed us that the next course of action against the duo will be decide in a meeting of the core committee of the Akali Dal that is scheduled to be convened in the coming days.
