Sikh Student Beaten Violently By Goons In Hyderabad for Pro-Kashmir Activism

HYDERABAD, ANDHRA PRADESH—Amol Singh, a Sikh research scholar who is pursuing a Masters in Philosophy in Political Science at the University of Hyderabad, was beaten violently by the goons of the pro-Hindutva body ABVP on July 16. Amol fell victim to the hooliganism of the ABVP goons when he was returning back to his hostel after staging a protest against the atrocities of the paramilitary forces in Kashmir valley.

Talking with Sikh24 correspondent, Amol Singh informed us that approximately 20 or 25 goons of the ABVP knocked him down and started beating violently on his face and stomach. He added that his friends surrounded him to shield him from the punches of the attackers which is why he survived the attack. “The assailants might have mistaken me as Bilal, a Kashmiri student at the University of Hyderabad, because of the resemblance of our beard and complexion,” he speculated.

Expressing fear of being attacked again by the ABVP goons, Amol Singh informed us that he has lodged a complaint against the Proctoring Committee of the University. He maintained that he might be suspended from the University like they did with Rohith Vemula in the past.

Hailing from a middle class family of Patiala, Amol Singh pursued his post-graduation in Political Science at the University of Hyderabad in 2013 and later enrolled in M.Phil (Masters in Philosophy) of Political Science in 2015.

  1. You are sure he is a Sikh. He is probably Sehajdhari not a Sikh. Does he wear Turban has Kesh has Beard nothing. So don’t call him a sikh.

  2. We need to start using our terminology correctly. Amol Singh is not a Sikh, but comes from a Sikh family. We are slowly changing what a Sikh is from what the Gurus have stated to what we want. Though keeping your kes not to look like (insert hindu, muslim, christian or whatever you would like) is not a legitimate reason to keep one’s kes. But at the same time, if one does not keep kes, they cannot be called a Sikh according to the Guru’s definition. . not the political definition made by our so called leaders.

  3. RSS so brave they have their mobs have to attack a singled our person! This is disgraceful. I do feel that this is more reason for Sikhs to show their identity not look like muslims by cut hair and beard. Guru Ji has given us a unique identity for these reasons that our outlook does not resemble any other.

  4. Disgraceful and cowardly attack but utterly typical of Hinduvta mobs who will NEVER EVER fight one on one but only when they have have mustered enough dutch courage by vastly outnumbering their opponent. It is a university and they couldn’t win the argument with reasoned debate but mob-handed violence.
