PATIALA, PUNJAB— Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a death row convict in the assassination case of former Punjab chief minister Beant, wrote a letter to the Indian minister of home affairs, Rajnath Singh, asking him why the government is delaying his execution.

In the letter written on July 9, Bhai Rajoana states that 21 years have passed, but the Indian government has not made it clear when he would be hanged.  He said he also wrote a letter on August 18 last year. Besides, he also sought information about this through the Right To Information (RTI) Act, but he did not get any satisfactory answer.

The Sikh freedom fighter reiterated that the government is putting the matter on hold despite the fact that he confessed his involvement in the assassination and did not appeal against the death sentence that the court pronounced for him in 2007. Opposing the delay in the execution, he wants to be hanged soon.

Bhai Rajoana was in a team with Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Bhai Parmjit Singh Bheora and other Sikh freedom fighters which planned to assassinate the former chief minister who committed massive human rights violations and who had his cops murder thousands of innocent Sikh youth in cold blood. Bhai Rajoana is presently in Patiala jail.
