Manifesto Row: SGPC To Move Court Against AAP Leaders

MakkarAMRITSAR, PUNJAB—The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) is leaving no stone unturned to corner the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the manifesto row. Now, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which is ruled by Akali Dal, announced on Thursday to move the court against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, youth leader MLA Ashish Khetan and Kanwar Sandhu for hurting religious sentiments of the Sikhs.

Against the AAP’s move of using the picture of Darbar Sahib along with its election symbol “broom” and Khetan’s statement in which he compared the manifesto with Guru Granth Sahib, the SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the apex gurdwara body would file a plea in the Amritsar court soon.

Rejecting an apology tendered by the AAP leaders on the issue, Makkar said, “First, the AAP attacked the Punjabi language in Delhi, then demolished the Chhabeel of Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib and now compared the manifesto with Guru Granth Sahib. These acts will not be tolerated anymore,” he added.

Despite tendering an apology for the ‘mistake’, AAP leader Ashish Khetan was booked under Section 295-A (for hurting religious sentiments) at Civil Lines police station, Amritsar, on the basis of a complaint lodged by the president of the All India Sikh Students’ Federation (AISSF), Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad. Now, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also announced to lodge a complaint against the AAP leaders in manifesto row. Thus, trouble for the AAP is increasing day by day.

  1. And when will the SGPC move to the court Makkar and Badals for hurting religious sentiments of the Sikhs as they have stated that the Panj Pyare are ‘nothing more than employees’, that ‘Miri Piri’ is no longer needed and Prakash frolics without his dastaar on Hindu festival of Holi merrily throwing bright colours whilst beadbi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib goes unresolved?! Truly the hypocrites have taken over the temple again with Makkar acting as the sanctimonious High Priest Caiaphas doing the bidding of his King Herod, Badal, in keeping the masses down as new Gods of Maya are installed. But fortunately the Bible too relates how a man who kept his hair long and unshorn in honour of the one and only Waheguru brought justice upon the philistines for their mockery. The Jews had Samson and the Sikhs have their Singhs.

    • Correction. It was of course Sukhbir Badal and not his octogenarian father Prakash that was so reprehensibly frolicking about in his garden celebrating Holi. Sometimes it is difficult for me to tell the two apart as there is no real difference in their policies / hypocrisies. Surprised ‘Harinder’ (not his real name) didn’t pick me up on this as he usually quick to defend his erstwhile king’s honour – RSS HQ will not be pleased.
