Sikh Youth Arrested from Rishikesh Remains in Police Custody

KHANNA, Punjab—A Sikh youth named Jagjit Singh was reportedly taken into custody from Rishikesh by Khanna police on June 15 has remained in police custody. The Khanna police first took Jagjit Singh to Kotwali police station of Rishikesh and then took him away to Khanna later that day.

Speaking with Sikh24, Mata Sukhwinder Kaur, Bhai Jagjit Singh’s mother, informed us that her son was arrested on fabricated charges.  “Jagjit Singh had recently posted a picture of him wearing a tshirt with the word ‘Khalistan’ inscribed on it.”

“My son was also carrying a licensed pistol.  I feel he’s being framed into fake cases by the Khanna police,” she told Sikh24.

Jagjit Singh was working at a truck repair shop in Rishikesh when he was taken into custody.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader Dr. Maha Singh and Youth Wing general secretary Manbir Singh Grewal have condemned the address.  He appealed the Punjab Government to release Jagjit Singh.  They have promised Jagjit Singh’s family to ensure their son receives a fair trial.
